Every time a listing gives a size in a unit you do not think in — and every time a dealer hands you a plot as two measurements in feet.

Every field, explained

How the answer is worked out
- Everything on this page stands on one number: 1 marla = 225 square feet on the Lahore and DHA measure, or 272.25 where the other measure is used.
- Kanal = marla ÷ 20. Gaz (square yard) = square feet ÷ 9. Square metre = square feet × 0.092903. Acre = 43,560 square feet.
- Front × depth in feet gives square feet directly, and square feet ÷ 225 gives marla.

Worth memorising the middle two: 5 marla is 1,125 sq ft and 1 kanal is 4,500. Most DHA conversations happen between those two numbers.

Mistakes people make
- Using 272 sq ft to the marla for a DHA plot. That is the measure in some other parts of Pakistan — not in Lahore, and not in DHA. It makes a 1 kanal plot look a fifth bigger than it is.
- Confusing square yards with square feet. A gaz is nine square feet.
- Assuming one acre is eight kanal here. That holds only on the 272.25 measure; on the Lahore measure an acre is about 9.7 kanal.
- Taking a listing's stated size as fact. On this site the DHA record decides the size, not the advertisement.

What it does not do
- It does not convert covered area or built-up area — those are measurements of a building, not of the plot.
- It does not know your plot's own front and depth; it can only turn them into a size once you supply them.
- It does not settle an argument about size. The DHA record does that.

Because the marla is not the same everywhere in Pakistan. Lahore, and DHA Lahore in particular, uses 225 sq ft. Using the wrong one makes a 1 kanal plot look a fifth bigger than it is.
